Cockerel. An auspicious year with many famous people who were born in the year
of the Cockerel (Rooster)

We have many festivals in China. This one is
particularly beautiful as you can see. I took these pictures on the last night
of the festival.
This is the last day
of our Chinese lunar new year. We call the last day of lunar new year the
Lantern Festival. This is a traditional holiday that is observed on the
fifteenth of the first month in the lunar calendar. From ancient times, people
would all go out to enjoy the many
kinds of lanterns often lit up by candles which covers the city in a fairytale
shimmering light. Always a magical experience and a great family event enjoyed
by both adults and children. We always try to come together as a family at
this special time. Here are some of my photographs from last year and this
year. Please click for a larger image.

This is a famous poem written
Ouyang Xiu(1007- 1072):
Shengzhazi
The Lantern Festival
Yesteryear, the fifteenth of
the first moon,
Festive lantern lights looked
as bright as noon.
The moon seemed to hang on a
willow tree,
As he and I were to, each
other, see.
This year, as usual, the
Festival came.
The moon and the lantern lights
were the same.
But he was absent at the
rendezvous.
My tears welled up and my
sleeves were soaked through.
