A shoal of Carp.
A truly traditional Japanese painting from the
second half of the 19th Century
This is a shoal of Koi. (Carp). Koi are very
auspicious fish. They live a very long time in excess of a hundred
years, they are also food fish sustaining human life, and when kept in a
pool in your garden, they become very close to their owner. Carp also
feature in myths and their strength, armour, tenacity and gentleness was
well admired by the Japanese and especially the Samurai..
Having a painting of Carp in the home means
that you are praying for the harmony and health of the family.

Sparrow,
rock and grass. This painting is late 19th century and a very well
painted traditional Japanese composition from this period of great
woodblock designs.
It is, like all the scrolls offered, a painting and not a
woodblock however.
The painting is wonderful and in very nice condition.
I have restored the scroll and the top and bottom silks replaced.
the colours are quite specific as these match the artists original
scroll colours on the original 19th century mounts. It is very
suitable for a living or sitting room on a light coloured wall.
This
scroll comes with a wooden box.
Measurements : 70.3cm by 135.0cm / 27.6" by 53.1"

Waterfall landscape fully restored on
silk
Waterfall Size = 110.0cm x 45.0cm
/ 43.3" x 17.7"
Hand painted on Silk. I managed to find this old painting
which had, at one point been on a scroll.
It has now been re mounted on a scroll.
However I wanted to keep the scroll to around 60 inches
and while not correct in the mathematical dimensions
of a traditional Scroll, This was designed for
Bonsai Tokonoma exhibition background display
The feeling of thundering water is quite wonderful in
this excellent painting by a Japanese Master, The top of the scroll
has the palest beige silk with a hint of green and the brocade
border reflects the green in the Maple tree, The scroll colour
to match this superb silk painting was designed
by my friend, a third generation Scroll Maker in China.
Including Brocade Silk covered box £ 225

This a 18th century Scroll but had
some damage to the
scroll silks. (the mounting around the painting)
Therefore I am remounting the scroll onto new silk using
the original
scroll ends but I will also keep the original
silks separately for the
buyer on which the
painting was
originally mounted. I am also rebacking the painting itself
to give
support to the image. Its a very delicate and beautiful
scroll and
although over 250 years old, well worth restoring
and bring back to the
viewing pleasure of today's
appreciative collectors
There is a signature "KANO EISHIN". He was a very famous
Japanese painter.

A very rare scroll. This comes
with a wood box. Sold
*Fuji-san (Mt.Fuji) :
Fuji-san is Japan's highest mountain, known
throughout
the world for its beauty. It is 3,776 meters high, located
almost in the middle of Japan, and in the past erupted
frequently. Since
1707 the volcanic activity has ceased,
but geologically it is still a dormant
volcano.Fuji-san is one
of Japan's three sacred mountains and has
been an object
of worship since ancient times. In the Edo period
(1603-1867) in particular, it was frequently climbed as an expression of
faith.
Its grandeur and beauty have fascinated many Japanese artists, who have
left behind great works of art. There is, for example, the outstanding
work called the "Fugaku (Fuji-san) Sanjurokkei (36 scenes of
Mount Fuji)" by
the ukiyoe artist Katsushika Hokusai, which contains
masterpieces like "Akafuji" that are known throughout the world.

The Old Pine:
The
Mekuri painting is now restored and mounted onto a silk scroll with
box.
This is not a big
scroll; and perfect for the Suiseki Tokonoma

TOBO SAKU. He was a writer living in ancient
China. In the legend, he was a hsien having holy peach which gives long
life..
The painting has now been restored and the scroll silks mounted . This is not
a big scroll and perfect for the smaller Tokonoma such as in a Bonsai
Exhibition. Hot having a specific plant or rock subject matter, I would
suggest that this is an ideal scroll for a tree in a similar shape to
Tobu Saku himself. This is a late
19th century painting.
