Repot August 2009

This is the tree a year after it was lifted of a mountain side by Jim McCurrach in 1987.             This is Twin Dragons Scots Pine in Spring 2006
My former Sensei, Peter Adams, stands beside the collected Yamadori in 1988
I had spotted it and I cut down the main trunk line.
This view stayed pretty much the same ever since.

This tree is featured in Bonsai Masterclass on page 178/179/180and that shows the collection and development
to this stage. I had already cut the main trunk out to shorten the tree and had developed the needles
over four years when it stayed with me before going back to Jim.

The next image shows the tree  in a fallow year in 2006. Its been wired and dewired many time.
However we discovered that this front was not quite right.
Also the depth of the soil was too deep and the original pot shape was
clear. It had been reduced when put into this pot but bit needed a couple of years to settle
before we could really do much else. The pot was a rare large size pot from Brian Albright.
However it was broken during potting and we used a large oval I had instead. I prefer it now.

by 2008 I have increased the bud production and the tree is now looking a lot fuller. By this time Peter Foele who had started to work with me had also begun to style the tree through 2008 and 2009

The tree was sitting too high ion the pot. We liked the pot but not the placement. So we now wanted to turn the tree and lower the thick root mass. An accident broke the pot made by Brian Albright, so I went to another pot that I had imported originally for this tree a couple of years ago.

Dewired in July 2009   Peter Foele repots the Twin Dragons to the new front aspect.

The tree is now in its new pot and sits a lot lower than in the rectangle pot above.
This is the back view.

The new front of the Dancing Dragons. Scots Pine around 250 years old and collected in Scotland by Craig Coussins and Jin McCurrach in 1987 as shown in my book Bonsai Masterclass on pages 178-180

It is unwired now and will be rewired next year but its pretty much all there. Because we had to remove a lot of base root it was horticulturaly best to let the tree settle for a year until early August 2010

Its been dewired (took two friends two days to do that) but the tree will be rewired next summer and that should be almost ready at that stage. I will continue to develop the back buds as before during 2010 Please look at the full story of this tree in my book Bonsai Masterclass page 178 to 180
