Subject: STOLEN TREE - San Jose Juniper from Cardiff area
Reply-To: <paul@eslinger.com>

This is not the note I wanted to be sending out to you all but Anne Campbell of
Cardiff Bonsai Society and Observatory Bonsai has had a San Jose Juniper stolen.
More details are in the attached note and the pictures are before the tree was restyled.

Please pass this note to all those you know so that we can hopefully gain site of the
tree and send Anne in the right direction to recover it.

Peter redesigned the tree into this shape

It is so sad that we continue to have this problem…

it is important that we help each other as much as possible in these circumstances.

Unfortunately we have had a large tree stolen over the Christmas period.
We noticed its absence on Boxing Day.
It is a large tree in a very heavy pot, so we believe it was a two
person job to get it out. One other tree went at the same time, but the
other tree was of no consequence.
The tree is a San Jose Juniper which was originally acquired by Roy
Clark at a Dan Barton Juniper workshop in 1988. Since 2005 it has been
looked after by Al & Anne Campbell at The Observatory Bonsai Nursery in
Cardiff.
On 23rd September it was taken to a Peter Adams workshop with Cardiff
Bonsai Club, and Peter suggested re-styling it to reduce its overall
bulk. He drew a picture, and the work is currently in progress.
I enclose photographs of the tree before re-styling, at the Peter Adams
workshop, and of Peter's drawing.
Please could you circulate the information, in case anyone comes across
this tree.
Many thanks
Anne

24 MAJOR TREES HAVE BEEN STOLEN (WEDNESDAY AUGUST 9TH 2006)

FROM THE COLLECTION OF  STEWART GRIFFIN.

THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS LOSS TO BRITISH BONSAI & A DISGRACE TO SERIOUS BONSAI LOVERS. THIS WAS QUITE OBVIOUSLY A  “CRIME TO ORDER” BY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT BONSAI

THIS THEFT INCLUDED THIS TREE, THE WINNER OF THE MARC NOELANDERS TROPHY 2006

A substantial quantity of bonsai were stolen from Stewart Griffins premises near Birmingham on 9 Aug 2006. Thieves gained access to his garden during the small hours by lifting a fence panel. Only the top quality trees were taken, lesser material was left indicating that the thieves had some knowledge of bonsai. It is likely that these trees will be out of circulation for some time in the hope they will be forgotten about. You can help by being wary of trees offered for sale over the coming months and comparing them with the images provided if you suspect they might be one of Stewarts.

If you identify any of these bonsai then please
contact him on: 07818 258 216
